A Happy Fourth of July

We had a lovely celebration of the Fourth of July this week!

I think my favorite thing was the weather cooperated so well for us to enjoy the entire afternoon on the back patio -- not too hot, not too cold, not wet!!!

Michael was gone but my friend, Karen, was here visiting!

Patriotic breakfast of yogurt with berries.

Actually, Grandma spent the night and after breakfast we drove her to the airport for her visit to Maine before picking up our friend Karen for the day.

Then we headed straight to our town's parade. It was so much fun!

The kids still love the parade!!!

And Laura is still into waving flags!

The necessary helpers who follow the horses!

I loved the pink tractor! Since we are on the edge of farming country, we have a lot of tractors in the parade.

And Michael's friend, The Honey Man, had a float in the parade.

And friends from church went by advertising their terrific consignment sale.

Emily and Craig joined us at the parade and then we all came home for sandwiches on the back patio.

Along with lots of watermelon and this amazing dipping sauce.

Em and Craig helped the kids get some sporting action going.

And David thought fighting swords and shields with Uncle Craig would be a good idea.

Laura helped Emily pick flowers. She is into this now.

Then the kids all disappeared (one to a nap) and my friend and I were left with our tea and cameras for a very relaxing afternoon.

In the evening we grilled shrimp and made up a bunch of different marinades.

Here is our dinner:

And the happy table:

Then, for the first time, I took the kids to see fireworks. They loved it, especially Laura. The best thing was, when we arrived home, Michael was also arriving home for the weekend. YAY!

A few more pictures from the parade. We always try to meet up with our friends the quadruplets at the parade each year.

Yay for the Fourth of July!

I love this picture of Laura and me at the parade.

And here are all the children:

It was a great day!

This reminds me of some of the small town parades we've enjoyed through the years. They are the best!

We hosted a 4th of July party but Mr. & Mrs. C. did all the work. Her parents and some of their family friends arrived, all of whom have become friends of ours since the wedding.

It was enjoyable and didn't wear me out. :)

Looks like a wonderful day with the children and friends!

Heather I have a Q to ask . . . . in your garden I see large expanses of grass and no fences, so how do you kind of know where your plot finishes and your neighbours begins, and do you not mind not having fences (for privacy) if anything? We all have fences here so not used to such open gardens!
