James' 10th Birthday

Now we can move on to James' 10th birthday! James recorded a total of FOUR parties to celebrate his birthday this year. First was the promised camping outing which I already posted about.

Then he was allowed to have four friends over for lunch after church. That made for a full table.

With that meal we had lemon cheesecake with blueberries on top. Yum!

Then on James' actual birthday he had his requested cinnamon rolls and presents to open. The table was decorated with a "Ranger's Apprentice" theme (you can hardly see the raccoon in the cloak).

For lunch we headed out to our favorite apple orchard for our traditional fall apple picking. Grandma joined us!

We all love being in the orchard.

And the kids love climbing the trees.

Grandma always gets plenty of work to do.

The birthday boy:

The kids always get apple cider slushies for the ride home.

Then, for the final party, we headed to Auntie C's after church on Sunday to celebrate Arthur and James' birthdays together. James loved his pumpkin spice latte.

And there were lots of yummy treats to eat.

Including these maple pumpkin cupcakes.

And this gf carrot cake, which I will have to share the recipe for soon.

Singing to the boys:

And then all eyes were on Arthur to watch the fun:

Yes, literally all eyes:

And there were presents to open as well:

I think James really needs to county 5 parties because Michael took him out for his traditional birthday breakfast at Bob Evans this week.

It's a bit strange to watch our family growing out of the younger years and into the older years. Lots of happy memories and new experiences and a few sentimental moments too.

I love the way you celebrate birthdays! All of the treats look fantastic. Mmmmmm!
I love apple orchards, too. We made it a regular outing when we lived in Washington.

many years to your son!

I can imagine that seeing the children grow up can have both a sense of wonder, anticipation and also loss.

much love to you.

I'm a pretty big birthday person. But I think James has me beat! 5 parties? Woohoo! Way to celebrate the one and only James.

I'm a friend of Elizabeth's and found your blog through a comment on hers...but I ♥ all the yummy things I see here! How do you make the latte? Is it with cider, whipped cream and caramel drizzled atop? And the maple pumpkin cupcakes look delish. I made Pioneer Woman pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting this weekend.

Gosh you are very talented celebrators. Thanks for sharing all these lovely things. What great weather you had for your orchard trip.

I have a friend from the Isle of Harris who never had a birthday cake until his friends at college bought him one when he was 18. I made him a cake when he turned 27 and it was the second birthday cake he'd had, and the first time anyone had ever made him one. The Free Church is very minimalistic!
