David Turns 9

David celebrated his 9th birthday at the end of July! We began the celebration with a picnic at Eagle Creek.

Since Grandma's birthday falls in the same week, we could combine celebrations!

The two youngest cousins enjoy a few chips:

After lunch mom pulled out the boat making supplies:

And then it was time to sail the boats and splash in the water.

It was a perfect day!

Then, on David's actual birthday, he had his requested breakfast waiting and a few presents:

Cinnamon rolls!

I think David's favorite present was his new solid plastic sword (as in very heavy and, to me, slightly dangerous).

In the evening we went to our Secret Beach:

And came home for David's requested cheesecake.

He had a great day and we were off to church family camp the day after.

Christopher was about his age when he became interested in swords. He later took fencing lessons and was doing great until he got mono. That was when his immune system problems started. I think his further interest came after reading French literature. He wasn't even a great reader but once he discovered books about swordsmen and all that "honor stuff", that made him read until it became easier.

Happy belated birthday to your mom and son. I miss age nine. Christopher was so much fun. Now he is grown up. And married. Sigh...

That looks like a series of lovely celebrations. Your family always seems to savour the most worthwhile things: family, friendship, simple pleasures, good food! Yes, there is a lot to be said for age 9. X
