Words and Wool

The most fun with wool I've had this week was the few hours I spent on Monday afternoon with Christina working on our new spring wreaths! Life is so full that it is extremely hard to pull together two hours to meet up and work. Battling long doctors appointments, lengthening errand lists, and grumpy children, we still managed to make it work and as a last resort we stuck the kids in front of Mr. Rogers! (a first for my kids so this counted as cultural enrichment, right?) You can check out my sister's finished wreath here. Mine is still a WIP.

I'm making progress on my tea cozy!!! I have the base finished and have been using Attic24's daffodil pattern to crochet daffodils for the top. So far, so good!

Another little bunny made its way out the door to a very tiny, adorable little owner.

As for reading this week:

Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe by Sarah Mae and Sally Clarkson arrived at the library in perfect time for my life! My life is so full and wonderful in many ways right now: I have relatively good health and energy, my kids are getting older and much more helpful, and I'm enjoying what I do. BUT, on the other hand, it's crazy! Our "limited extracurricular activities" actually take time and I find I'm in the car driving places all the time! Not to mention that I like to keep something of a social life going! There is little time to breathe.

Sally Clarkson's writings have been one of the biggest influences on who I am as a mom. I am so thankful Brenda introduced me to them several years ago. This book is her latest, and will most definitely encourage and inspire. Here's a quote from what I read this morning:

"Just a note today to remind you not to listen to all of those formulas and rules out there. God did not create us to fit into a box. You and your sweet ones, with all of your individual quirks and bents, will express your own unique family culture. Live well within the limistations of your personality and theirs and you will find more joy. Love well and deeply, give yourself and your children lots of grace and forgiveness, and lean deeply into the grace of Christ as you walk this journey. Rules, laws, and boxes tend to kill the soul when it comes to expectations of motherhood. Freedom leads you to more contentment and joy. And in living by faith in this freedom, your heart will be pleasing to God, who is your audience, after all."

Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People Who Love to Eat by Melissa Joulwan was recently recommended to me by my friend Jess. I love this cookbook! My mom loves this cookbook! It includes great, basic, healthy meal ideas along the lines of the types of food we already like to eat. I just need a few more hours to sit down and read it thoroughly!

Noni Flowers: 40 Exquisite Knitted Flowers by Nora Bellows is a book Christina showed me and which I had to check out myself! It's filled with gorgeous, knit-able flowers! Just wait until you see them all! Now I just have to figure out WHEN to make them. :)

You can find more knitting and reading inspiration over at Ginny's Yarn Along.

Beautiful wreath and the tea cozy is just right for the spring that I know is on its way!

Thanks for the book recommends.. I'm thinking the flowers would be a welcome addition to my craft book list.

Blessings, Debbie

The wreath is lovely. I should probably make one for ourselves and get the Christmas wreath off our apartment door.

I read Desperate in two days! So convicting and encouraging! :) Sally Clarkson is one of my favorite authors...I recently FINALLY purchased Educating a Whole Hearted Child...it's just PACKED with info. It's really my educational philosophy! :) It is more of a reference book though! I'm reading Kisses from Katie (among other things) right now...such a good jolt for me...
