Words and Wool

I think it has been several weeks since my last Words and Wool post so I have a few things to write about.

I finished the yellow Daisy Chains Shawlette (designed by Christina)!!! It was a nice, quick knit and I'm so happy to have something bright and cheery for spring! It will go with blue or yellow so well. I haven't even worn it yet -- silly me! It's been too cold, really. I need a day when I can just wear a long-sleeve t-shirt and it's still pretty much cashmere and lots of layers ($2 cashmere from Goodwill).

I have my next spring knit underway though, and it is a lot farther along now than this picture. The pink is also much softer than the picture -- more of a baby pink like the flower above. The pattern I'm using is Just One of Those Things. So far it is knitting up very fast and I am happy with the pattern. I see a few symbols in the chart farther on that I don't recognize but I trust they won't be too difficult!

I needed a gender neutral hat for a friend at church so came up with this gray and teal combo and a tiny little crochet flower pin which can be added on to make the hat more feminine if the baby is a girl!

And now for a project I was secretly working on for some time these past months: the Mull tea cozy. This is made using bits and pieces of real Harris Tweed, given to me by a friend when we were in Scotland (plus a few pieces from my own stash of wool). I combined three different photos of Mull to come up with this design to capture various elements of the island: white houses, white sand beaches with lots of seaweed, green grass, re-forestation, barren hills, tall mountains, mist over the mountain peaks, etc.

Here is a view of the back:

I added "Mull" to the back so no one could mistake it. :)

As for reading:

The kids and I finished several books including Lassie Come Home and Anna and the King. Then we watched both of the movies, which was fun.

I also finished:

The Necklace: Thirteen Women and The Experiment That Transformed Their Lives by Cheryl Jarvis. This was a fascinating, true life story about thirteen women that decided to go in together on a $37,000 diamond necklace and split the wearing of it throughout the year. It was a very interesting look into women's lives and especially their friendships and the importance of friendship. My interest waned towards the end but I still very much enjoyed it.

I have a whole stack of things I'm in the middle of so perhaps next week I'll have a longer list to recommend!

Love the tea cozy. I have been researching some for myself too, knitted though. Tea has gotten me through this winter!

I really love how your shawl turned out. What a beautiful pattern. In fact, I just FAV'd it on Rav. Someday I'll have to make one for myself. And that tea cozy - LOVE! I have a huge affection for patchy things like that.
