December Birthdays

We celebrated birthdays on Sunday -- mine, my sister Emily's and her boyfriend, Craig's.

After church, before lunch, the kids got busy decorating the Christmas tree.

Christmas is so much fun for kids!!!

Then we had Sausage and Kale Soup for lunch with bread and salad.

The three sisters together -- see my latest knitting project? That's my red Madelinetosh wool I brought back from NYC.

Check out the birthday cake!!! Made for us by Christina and requested by me from the Southern Living Peppermint Cheesecake Layer Cake!

One cake -- three birthdays.

It was everything I hoped for!!! yum, yum, yum!

Mom painted pretty packages and there was lots of gift-opening.

Plenty of tea and chat......

And the tree, as completed by the kids.....

Now, today, we are all in the throes of the stomach flu, unhappily shared among the family. Oh well, this means we should be well by Christmas, unlike last year when we ate chicken soup for Christmas dinner.

I fell on your blog yesterday and it enthralled me. I spent the day reading about your beautiful family, your celebrations, your talents.. amazed at all the wonderful pictures, the gorgeous, various table settings... super impressed at all you do for your home, community and family (and home schooling to top it off - i can't even imagine where you find the time).
I live in NYC, right off Wall St where you apparently visited a few months ago. I am 46, i live alone, have no children or family - and i can say that i lived vicariously through you all day yesterday. I thank you for that, I will continue reading your blog as it brings me much joy, it fulfills dreams I used to have for myself....
I wish you the happiest of birthdays.
thank you,
ariele

I hope you feel better! We have managed to stay well so far..I love the scarf - I keep looking at yarn and keep telling myself that this is the winter I learn to knit. Then I pick up another sewing project! I'm getting a new to me computer for my home so I hope to be back to blogging soon!

Such celebrations with family around. It reminds me of when my kids were young.

Although, as I have said, as much as I miss when they were little it is rewarding to see them as adults.

May you have a very blessed Christmas season.

I hope you all get better soon. Stomach flu is not fun. I just love your mum's art - what do you do with the wrapping? It is worthy of a frame!
That cake is amazing! Is it much effort to make?
By-the-way, I've been meaning to comment for so long on the resemblance between your mum and Laura - so alike! Has anyone else commented on that?
