Ploughman's Lunch

Pulling things out of the fridge for lunch I decided I had the makings of what is known as a "Ploughman's Lunch" in the UK. Further decided I would make a cup of tea and head up to my cozy book corner to enjoy a little bit of respite with my festive food and my classic January read (the newest book in the Irish Country Doctor series). All was lovely and bliss for 4 or 5 minutes! Ha ha ha! Then my little Lolly showed up and wanted to share my food and chat and use the potty. By the time I got back to my seat the tea was past best. However, I still enjoyed making the food and the thought of it so much that it was worth it in the end.

I've been telling Laura that we were going to potty train in December. Somehow life never slows down and I seriously considered forgetting about the potty training. But, on the last day of December, in fact, in the very last 12 hours of the last day we began potty training. I am pleased to say that it was the complete opposite of our failed summer attempt. Laura is now an old pro and we just have to conquer overnight. Can you hear my sigh of relief! If you ask Laura, she will tell you that it is now December and we are potty training.

I saved my family a lot of money today -- I stayed home from the monthly half price off at Goodwill! Ha ha! It was very tempting to go, as it is one of my favorite things to do. But, with nothing pressing that we were needing, I decided it was wisest to stay home and tackle my to-do list. I'm quite pleased with the results of my decision and the laundry, menu planning, and ironing were completed by lunch! That left the rest of the day for the rest of the list.

We have been enjoying such beautiful snow! It arrived the day after Christmas and has been added to several times since, including today. Strangely I have not yet been out for a walk in it. I must be getting older -- the cold has me more and more scared away. I do happen to be allergic to the cold (or temperature changes -- cold urticaria) and I wonder if I'm just more and more aware of how it affects me. Oh well. One of these days I do want to get out into nature again and enjoy it without a window in between. We did especially enjoy seeing several Eastern Bluebirds in our backyard today. Such lovely things and all puffed up from the cold!

And now we are all sitting here in my bedroom listening to Pigeon Post -- listening to a book with the children is one of my most favorite things to do.

Irish Country Doctor series.... ???? sounds lovely.... who is the author>
We are potty training at the moment too. Almost there - I will be giving a sigh of relief when she is a pro too. :) I am sitting here in summery clothing at 7.30 at night with all the windows open trying to cool the house down so the children can go to bed (no aircon in this house). I wish we had snow right now...
Happy New Year to you all.

Your bookshelves look delectable! Sorry you didn't get to enjoy your Ploughman's Lunch but hopefully there will be more opportunities soon.

I also hope you can get a calm, sunny day to go for that walk in the snow. We've hardly had any snow yet this year and as my daughter's now in a wheelchair I'm kind of hoping we have a mild winter. Though I do love the snow.

Heather,
do you remember the big igloo we built at your house in Jersey Shore? I have been enjoying catching up with your family through your posts recently and remembering the fun things we did I as children. :) Kate
