It's December 1st!

December is here! I was beginning to feel like Fall would stick around for awhile but yesterday, upon waking, we realized winter is here.

And what better way to celebrate the first day of December than to make a snowman!

Yesterday we cooked Old Mother Hubbard. It was time. She had been sitting on the coffee table all Fall waiting for just the right moment.

My Uncle Bill is in town and he spent the day with us yesterday. Known as the "Frugal Gourmet" in our family, cooking with Uncle Bill is a real highlight. Relatively speaking, we've never really had that much time to spend together and yet our cooking styles (and my sister's and mom's) are very similar.

We decided on chicken with a pan sauce of onions and white wine accompanied by cranberry-orange green beans, baked sweet potatoes, and Old Mother Hubbard.
It was my first time cooking hubbard squash. A book advised cooking it whole as the skin is entirely too tough to cut through. We poked a few wholes in her and stuck her in a pan of water in the oven. Voila! It worked and the squash tasted like a combination of butternut and acorn squashes. Delightful!

The food shopping is done and it's time to go read a Christmas book to the children. I spent an hour or two ordering Christmas books from the library and we are now well-stocked. I plan to review several before long.

Oh how wonderful! Mum and Dad have 2 feet of snow, but ours was barely enough to call snow and it didn't stick! The yard is mucky and wet and just not one bit of fun ti play out in, but we are glad you had such a nice snowman making snowfall! Not one bit jealous - really! We'll get some soon, I hope - we are all ready with warm coats and winter boots and the last pair of Thinsulate mitts for boys Kohl's had on sale last week!

I loved your thanksgiving photos - what a delightful time for you all - and what a gourmet assortment of foods! You folks really do put it on in style! I'm just such a plain jane kind of cook! You time together was blessed I'm sure!

Thanks for commenting on my daybook! We could always meet half way and share a cup of tea you know - it wouldn't be too bad of a drive on a nice day! It would be so much fun!

OH how fun. . .the kids get their frist snowman of the year. I see no sign of snow here yet . . .last year we had our first snow on our grandgirlies birth day.
Your squash looks scrumptious. . I could eat a whole one by myself, and its a good thing too since I haven't much help eating them.
