December 10

Today, as usual, Laura and I made our weekly stop at the library. I can't tell you how thankful I am for our library system. Picking up the books I've requested is certainly one of the highlights of my week. Since reading is not only my favorite hobby but also a vital part of our homeschool (not to mention our spiritual growth) the library fills a very important need in our lives. And, for the most part, it's free! Every week I am thankful.

I've been disappointed not to find that many good Christmas reads this year. I guess I'm picky. I want an endearing story, set not in modern times, with a somewhat believable plot, and lots of winter and food scenes, especially tea. Hard to come by......

I feel my house becoming cluttered around the edges as Christmas approaches and projects are underway. Hmmmm. I don't think I'll be able to keep it all at bay but I am trying. Tonight I discovered my kids used an entire roll of packing tape today on their creations. I do like that they are creative. But sometimes packing tape feels expensive. And I feel like I buy three-roll packs all the time! I hope I can find some somewhere in the house for the packages that need to be mailed....

I think it's time for a little rest, maybe knitting, maybe reading, definitely some hot tea and perhaps a last bit of birthday pie?

Libraries are such wondrous places!

love libraries too! (though my local can walk to it one sadly leaves little to be desired)... abe books and albris are great places often to find inexpensive books, fyi; often better than amazon depending on the book.

Do you have any dollar stores near you? may be able to get cheaper packing tape there.

God be with you.

You might enjoy Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas by Stephanie Barron (a Jane Austen mystery). Hopefully your library will have it - it was just released this fall. It definitely falls into your lots of snow/winter, non-modern and tea-drinking category. :) The Miss Read Christmas titles might also fall into your category (and no mystery involved! :) ) Another seasonal title that I've enjoyed is A Charlie Brown Christmas The Making of a Tradition by Lee Mendelson w/Bill Melendez. (the story of how the TV special came to be) Happy Seasonal Reading to you!
