School, finishing the childrens' version of the Iliad with the children, the smell of roasting pumpkin and simmering turkey soup, piano lessons and food shopping, awe-inspiring December skies, mountains of dishes, piles of cooked pumpkin, vast quantities of turkey soup, a square of 85% chocolate to tide me over, impromptu prayer meeting at our house, the chance to slow down, to listen to the voices of adults and children praying for each other, a house quiet except for the sound of the dryer.
